Live in Thailand with your Thai spouse
We prepare your marriage visa and yearly extension for Hua Hin Immigration, including the translations, the photos and the papers your spouse needs to bring.
How the marriage visa works
Like the retirement visa, it is two steps. You hold a Non-Immigrant O visa, then apply at Hua Hin Immigration for a one-year extension based on marriage to a Thai national. The marriage must be registered at a Thai district office (amphur), or a foreign marriage registered in Thailand. You then renew every year.
There is no minimum age, and the financial amount is half of the retirement route, so it is often the better option for couples.
The financial requirement
You can show one of these:
- 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name, in place for at least 2 months before you apply
- A monthly income of at least 40,000 baht, shown by an embassy letter or proof of income
Immigration offices sometimes ask for extra evidence. We confirm the current list with Hua Hin Immigration before your appointment.
Documents you’ll need
- Passport, with copies of the photo page, visa, latest entry stamp and departure card
- Form TM.7 and a recent passport photo
- Marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3)
- Your spouse’s Thai ID card and house book (signed copies)
- Bank book and bank letter, or proof of income
- Photos of the two of you together at home, inside and outside
- A map to your home; children’s birth certificates if you have children
Interview and home visit
Immigration wants to see that the marriage is genuine. Expect a short interview with both of you, and sometimes a visit to your home by an officer. We tell you what to expect and make sure your photos and documents tell a clear story.
How we help
We check your marriage documents and translations, prepare the forms, list exactly what your spouse needs to bring, and can come with you to Hua Hin Immigration. If your marriage was registered abroad, we arrange the translations and registration in Thailand. For wills, prenuptial agreements and family matters, our partner lawyers at Premier Legal Services work from the same office.
Tell us your situation and we will send you a clear plan with the full cost.
Common questions
If yours isn’t here, ask us. There is no charge for a first conversation.
Can I work on a marriage visa?
A marriage extension lets you apply for a work permit, which a retirement visa does not. You still need the work permit before you start any work. We can arrange both.
We married abroad. Can I still get a marriage visa?
Yes, but the foreign marriage needs to be translated, legalised and registered at a Thai district office first. We handle that process with you.
Do we both have to go to immigration?
Usually yes. Your Thai spouse normally needs to attend with you and sign documents. We prepare the paperwork so the visit is quick.
What if the marriage ends?
The extension is tied to the marriage, so it would end too. Talk to us early and we will explain your options for staying in Thailand legally.
Often needed together
